We just closed a case with the IRS where a taxpayer retained us regarding a reassessment from their 2022 Tax refund of $5K that became a balance due of $10K. Apparently, the employer sent the wrong W-2 to the IRS, thereby triggering a reassessment. We pulled together the payroll information, data and communications from HR and submitted those to the IRS for reconsideration. My client has now received all refunds due + interest.
